  1. As a student in Mrs. Kohanim’s honors literature class, I have seen the commitment and passion that Mrs. Kohanim embodies when teaching various types of students. She provides her lessons with relations to how it is perceived in our day to day lives. Her passion for the English Literature and Language itself provides her students with enough information to ace our essays and to dig deeper into our analysis of a specific work. As a student who originally did not enjoy literature that much, Mrs. Kohanim’s class changed that for me. I enjoyed all of the philosophical conversations and the arguments proposed within different time periods and its related philosophy. Mrs. Kohanim has always looked out for the positive side in a student and has polished any doubts or weaknesses , by motivation and confidence turning them into strengths. Mrs. Kohanim has left a positive impact on me and I am proud to say that I was one of her students.

  2. Mrs. Kohanim has undoubtedly been the most transformative and influential teacher that I have ever met. I had the honor of being in both her 9th honors literature class as well as the debate team which she coached. Her drive for making students better learners and her willingness to help those who struggle set her apart from countless other teachers that I have had. I walked into her class on the first day of school a shy, confused, and unsure student and through the years, from her help both in class and on the debate team, have matured into a much more well-rounded and confident student. For students who may not be able to see their own successes or positive characteristics, Mrs. Kohanim is truly a blessing. She not only draws out and nourishes such positive attitudes and behaviors, she helps students identify them in times where positivity may otherwise be elusive. Aside from being a wonderful teacher and mentor, Mrs. Kohanim is also a lot of fun to be around. While she may seem all business at first, she will, in fact, joke around with you and can make you laugh or smile even when you may not feel like it. I truly would not be the same person I am today if not for Mrs. Kohanim and I can’t say enough wonderful things about her. Truly one of the most amazing teachers I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

  3. Ms. Kohanim is without a doubt one of my favorite teachers out of everyone who’s taught me in my lengthy school career. She makes literature fun and is very straight forward in what she wants out of her students. She motivated me to work harder and sparked a newfound willingness to learn. I will forever be grateful to her for helping me view school not with the goal to achieve straight A’s but with the intent to learn something new. She’s the one teacher I can confide in and never fails to make me laugh. Ms. Kohanim teaches lifelong lessons and ensures that her students take the time to value their mental health. In conclusion, her class changed my perception on my future and self. Ms. Kohanim goes above and beyond as a teacher for her students and I will forever value the lessons taught in this class.

  4. Mrs. Kohanim’s class has definitely been one of my favorite classes of all time. I appreciated how all of her lessons are clearly planned and how she puts all of the information out to the students through her website. Her vision boards are amazing and offer an interesting and engaging learning format. I especially appreciate how she teaches a variety of topics all under the umbrella of literature; by incorporating movies, philosophy, and visual arts into her lessons, Mrs. Kohanim makes her class engaging for all types of learners. I also appreciated the fact that Mrs. Kohanim regards her students as knowledgeable and independent learners rather than as naïve teenagers. She finds ways to incorporate everyone’s interests into her lessons and takes into account the diverse personalities of her students. Overall, Mrs. Kohanim’s class was an enriching experience where I felt not only like I belonged, but also like I could excel in the class in my own way. I highly recommend Mrs. Kohanim’s class.

  5. I’ve recently heard that you are moving to Milton High School, and I would like express my gratitude for all that you have done for me, my classmates, and Northview High School.

Both 9th Literature Honors and 11th Literature Honors were one of the best classes I took at Northview. 9th Literature Honors taught me the basics of great writing and was the first class that truly challenged me. Had I not taken this class, I would not have developed the fundamentals of writing and rhetoric that I could later build on in 11th Literature Honors, AP Literature, and debate.

11th Literature Honors was my favorite class at Northview. Though I had initial exposure to philosophy in debate, your vision boards and engaging in-class discussions shined a new light on this subject. I was able to critically think about philosophy without the context of a debate and relate it to everyday life. Critically analyzing these philosophical topics is what allowed me to publish two articles on sexism, racism, and ageism within clinical trials in leading medical journals in only my first year of college.

Debate was my favorite extracurricular that I participated in during my time at Northview. Without your leadership of the debate team, my classmates and I would not have had the chance to travel across the country and practice necessary rhetorical skills. My participation in debate gave me the skills to critically analyze scientific papers, conduct autism research in my freshmen year, and discuss investigations and experiments with professors and leading scientists.

More than classes and debate, you have imparted words of wisdom that have greatly affected both me and my fellow students. I remember at the Emory Debate Tournament, I asked you whether it was worth decades of hard work in order to pursue medicine. Before you went out for a run, you sat down with me and explained that nothing in life comes easy and that I must not always think in the long-term but rather take life step-by-step in order to not be overwhelmed. This advice gave me the courage to pursue my dream, and I have used this advice to achieve my long-term goals.

Thank you so much for all you have done for me and all the other Northview students you’ve taught. 9th Literature Honors, 11th Literature Honors, and the debate team have provided some of my most engaging and enlightening experiences in Northview. Northview High School and all of your past and present students will miss you.

    Sincerely,
    Vineet Reddy

  6. I have had the privilege of having Mrs. Kohanim as a Language Arts teacher and as a debate coach, and I can say that she has been one of the best teachers I have ever had. Whether it be for her students or debaters, she always goes the extra mile for all of us. The amount of effort she puts into teaching each and every one of her students is evident when you look at the intricate and visually stunning Vision Boards she creates for her literature students to help them comprehend tricky concepts or when you see her supporting her students at long and demanding debate tournaments. There are so many other examples I can think of that showcase Coach K’s dedication to all of her students, and that is a testament to how good of a teacher she is. In addition to being extremely dedicated to her students, she is one of the most knowledgeable people I have ever met. Her passion for philosophy and literature is unparalleled, and she inspires her students to explore these difficult, confusing concepts along with her. If you have any question about any of the concepts being taught or the literature you have been reading, chances are the Mrs. Kohanim has a comprehensive and clear answer that will make the lightbulb above your head illuminate like in the cartoons. I can speak from first-hand experience on this front as I have come to her with questions on challenging topics from both debate and literature, and I have always walked away less confused and more knowledgeable on the subject. So don’t be afraid to ask her questions because she will always answer them in a way that makes sense to you no matter what type of learner you are or how much you already know about the topic. She is also one of the nicest and most helpful teachers I have ever had as well; she truly wants the best for each of her students, and she goes out of her way to make sure every single one of us is doing well. I really can’t run out of ways to praise Mrs. Kohanim; she is a fantastic teacher and mentor that any student would be fortunate to have.

  7. Having Ms. Kohanim for 11th grade Literature was very enjoyable and intellectually stimulating. Almost everyday I would find myself in deep thought about the topics discussed in class and the ideas she would present to us, and unlike most teachers, she would allow everyone to learn at their own individual pace and form their own conclusions about the concepts we learned. She wasn’t afraid to show her students their potential and what they’re capable of and always regarded their needs and opinions as valid and important. Her vision boards are something that also make her stand out among other teachers in that they were very appealing to her students and made philosophical ideas and theories more understandable and also allowed for us to formulate our own standings and think for ourselves on these ideas, thus opening our minds to a world of knowledge and intellect that had been previously been hindered from us.

  8. Ms. Kohanim has truly opened up my eyes on the logistics of our society. She has really inspired me to think for myself and stay true to my myself. I was really blessed to have here for my 11th grade honor literature class. I loved the freedom she gave us in class to decide which/what assignments to help improve our knowledge of the topics and lessons taught. I really appreciated her taking the time to personally talk to her students everyday making sure they are included. Personally, Ms. Kohanim has really helped me to fully express myself in my writing and write without limitations. I would always push myself to go beyond and not just write the minimum. I loved the abstract and depth thinking and looking at the different types of literature from poems to graffiti art. It was a joy being in her class and I would love to be in her class again.

  9. Mrs. Kohanim is by far one of the greatest teachers I’ve ever had! She is passionate about literature and about helping her students improve so that they can reach their greatest potential. I enjoyed her 11th honors literature class so much this year because she was always so positive and caring for her students. I soon realized that she was not only an incredible teacher but an amazing individual as well. Her personal stories and anecdotes that she shared with the class really opened up my eyes to her genuine and kind character and on top of that, I learned that I could relate to her on a personal level. Overall Mrs. Kohanim is just one of those teachers that everyone wishes they had because she puts her students first and offers so much aid and support to them. I am forever grateful to have had her as a teacher because she has taught me so many valuable lessons that can benefit me both in and out of the classroom.

  10. Mrs. Kohanim’s 11th Grade Literature class has honestly been a highlight of highschool for me. Mrs. Kohanim was able to make sure that every topic in class was interesting and actually relevant to something in real life. She used a variety of learning methods, and things like her vision boards were so unique to her class, and were always interesting to participate in. Mrs. Kohanim has a deep understanding of all the concepts and philosophical ideas and is able to translate that to something students can understand very easily. Additionally, she immensely helped improve my writing, giving very good and specific advice.

More importantly, Mrs. Kohanim truly cares about her students. She ensured that the class was not overly stressful, she recognized when students had a lot of work, such as towards the end of the year, and made sure her class was not contributing to the stress. If I had a question about anything, it was really easy to ask her because she was always understanding and caring about her students. Having Mrs. Kohanim this year was absolutely amazing, and has had an immense impact on me.

  11. After having the privilege of having Ms. Kohanim as my literature teacher for both 9th and 11th grade, I can say that she is definitely one of the most astounding teachers I’ve ever had. She utilizes a variety of unique methods to attend to every student’s learning style, such as her incredible vision boards. She is excellent at engaging students’ minds and exposing many different perspectives on crucial topics in our society. I was always intrigued in her class due to the philosophical concepts she discussed with us, which were often challenging to fully comprehend but also very interesting. Her knowledge of philosophy is extremely impressive, and she always answers questions thoroughly. Her class has taught me not only how to be a truly critical thinker, but also how to be a truly confident individual.

In addition to Ms. Kohanim’s exceptional teaching styles, she is also a wonderful individual. She truly wants to see her students succeed in all aspects of life, not just academically. She takes the time to understand her students on a personal level, and the fact that she shared some of her personal experiences with us to reveal how relatable she can really be has illuminated her authentic and affectionate nature. Although her class was often challenging (yet very enjoyable), she knew that we were often very stressed due to our other classes and made sure her class wasn’t adding too much stress during final exams. Also, she always makes students feel comfortable with her distinctive humor and kindness. Ms. Kohanim is a charismatic and unique teacher that brings a transformative experience to students with her literature class, and any student would be very lucky to have her.

  12. I am extremely grateful for everything that Ms. Kohanim has done for me, as my experiences in her class has left a lasting impression on me. The best part about Ms. Kohanim’s class was knowing that it revolved around the students. From the get-go, Ms. Kohanim spent time to get to know our learning styles and always made sure that her classes were engaging by constantly changing her teaching methods, and it was because of her care that she was able to ask her classes what they felt like they needed to learn the most or what they wanted to learn next. One of Ms. Kohanim’s main pursuits as a teacher was to present ideas that strongly encouraged her students to adopt multiple perspectives and to think for themselves. Although her class was always challenging, Ms. Kohanim made sure her lessons were easy to digest to allow her students to reach their maximum potential in critical thinking. On top of all of this, Ms. Kohanim constantly reminded her students that they are worth more than their grades and took into account our five other classes before assigning homework to avoid over-stressing them. Coming out of Ms. Kohanim’s class has turned me into a much more confident and thoughtful individual, and it was a true blessing to experience her teaching.

  13. I had an amazing experience in Mrs. Kohanim’s literature class. Her engaging, effective teaching style and interesting resources made her class something to look forward to. Her creative vision boards helped me better understand the link between philosophical teachings, literature, and real life while also having fun. She always went to great lengths to give us a personalized learning experience despite large class sizes; by sorting us into several different groups based on personality type and learning style, she gave us opportunities to learn in an environment that best suited us as students. In Mrs. Kohanim’s class, I learned to appreciate literature while also synthesizing the information with my knowledge of history and current events to form a better understanding of the world around me. Her class was always interesting and informative, and I grew as both a person and a student as a result.

  14. I was one of the students in Mrs. Kohanim’s American Literature class and through her enthusiasm, dedication, and positive attitude the class quickly became the best part of my day. She is an extremely wise teacher and was able to discuss difficult subjects stemming from philosophy and American Literature while also connecting to her students and looking out for their mental health. There was never a single moment in her class that I felt unmotivated or uncertain of my abilities. Thanks to her teachings, I feel much more comfortable reading and analyzing literature. Furthermore, Mrs. Kohanim is willing to put in an enormous amount of time and effort to help her students with valid feedback and suggestions for improvement. With Mrs. Kohanim as a teacher I was able to clearly see the flaws in my writing and work to improve my style. Her skills also translate into discussions and vision boards we discuss during class. We were able to think for ourselves as students, struggle with big questions, and think critically about texts thanks to Mrs. Kohanim’s brilliant teaching style. I am so grateful to her for helping me and all of my fellow classmates succeed in our Junior year of high school. Thanks to her class, we all have made significant progress and are prepared to enthusiastically take on the rest of our education.

  15. Mrs. Kohanim left a remarkable footprint in my life. She was an amazing teacher, who not only connected with me on a personal level, but also taught me many key skills useful to the journey of life. The personal stories that she shared were quite impactful. In her class, I learned the important aspects of American literature and how to use critical thinking skills. The one thing that always stood out to me, was her ability to personalize her thoughts to fit the individual, even when she had a generous amount of students. Although her class was a bit challenging, she never pressured us to finish work when she knew that we were very stressed. Her personality reflected her class, in that it was enjoyable and fun. Daily, she would allow us to go to the depths of knowledge and question fundamental beliefs. I enjoyed the day most when we discussed challenging philosophical concepts. Even when we discussed difficult topics, she made sure that everyone understood by taking things slow. She’s taught me the importance of myself and given me confidence. For that, I am forever thankful.

  16. Mrs. Kohanim has been one of the most influential teachers in all of my years in the public school system. She engaged the class in a way that I had never seen before and made her class exciting and informative. She made sure that all of her students learning styles where catered to so that everyone could really grasp the material she was teaching. One of my favorite parts about my entire junior year was her vision boards. She would fill a whiteboard with symbols and phrases that related to the unit and we would spend an entire class period diving into the philosophy and ideas that we had been learning about. I have never been very into writing and literature, but I always looked forward to her class. She challenged all of her students, but she always made sure that the pressure was not too much. I would highly recommend any of my friends to take her class and am sorry to see her leave Northview.

  17. I am the parent of one of Mrs. Kohanim’s students. My son Lucas took her literature class during the 2018-19 school year. In the past, he had not thought of himself as someone who excelled in English literature/language classes, but Lucas heard so many encouraging things from friends about Mrs. K’s class and teaching style that he decided to take a chance. Within the first couple of weeks, he began sharing with me stories from class, and telling me what an amazing teacher she is. Mrs. K is so creative, and is able to bring the curriculum alive for students with different learning styles. Lucas has been forever impacted by Mrs. K’s teaching, and he counts her among the best teachers he has had in his entire school career. Mrs. K, thank you so much for the effort and creativity you put into your classes, and the kindness and positivity with which you interact with your students. You are a very special person 🙂

  18. Mrs. Kohanim was one of the most influential teachers I’ve ever had. She is an energetic and exciting teacher who really engages with her students and helps them with whatever problems they may have in her class. She taught me so much about writing and literature that I never knew before and has helped me to become a much better writer than I was in years past. She has an amazing way of making the class both informative and entertaining through her Vision Boards and pensive talks on life and the world around us. Mrs. K encouraged critical thinking and in-depth analysis of texts, which helped her students learn and grow. She made sure that her students felt comfortable in her classroom and that they were able to achieve the highest level of success possible. I can honestly say that I had the best time with Mrs. Kohanim and I am truly grateful to have had her as my teacher.

  19. Without a doubt Mrs. Kohanim is one of the best teachers I have ever had. One of my favorite aspects of Mrs. Kohanim’s class were her vision boards, where she covered a whiteboard in colorful, symbolic drawings in response to a student-submitted question about the current unit. Mind-breaking and awe-inspiring, the vision boards always left me with new ideas and understanding. As a teacher, she made class interesting and engaging, and was fair and just in the classroom. If a student didn’t understand something, Mrs. Kohanim was quick to answer any questions. Outside of school related work, Mrs. Kohanim also understood that students can become stressed, and made sure to speak to the class about the importance of mental health and putting it first. She also used the different learning styles (kinesthetic, visual, auditory) based on the students to create lessons that revolve around one of the learning styles. She understood that a PowerPoint presentation can be boring, and brought excitement to the class with more engaging lessons. Mrs. Kohanim will always have a place in my heart, and I hope her new students appreciate her as a teacher and person.

  20. Mrs. Kohanim has been by far of the most impactful and engaging teachers i’ve ever had. Even if a lesson was something i found uninteresting conceptually, I was always pulled in and gained something from it. Almost all the concepts she taught were done in a way that allowed me to quickly grasp and understand and in the case of confusion all my questions were answered in a way that cleared it up. This teacher is one that realizes the context of the classroom and beyond it, that her students don’t simply come to her class alone and leave school. She understands how High schoolers have pressures for College, grades, AP/Honors Classes, and other extracurriculars. She made sure to have class discussions about these topics while tying them together with the book or general topic we were learning. As other students have mentioned her “vision boards” are one of the most interesting and creative things i’ve seen a teacher do. Every unit she takes a student asked question and transforms it into a piece of art with symbols and topics all over it, on a white board. Then, an entire class period is devoted to it and the class chooses which part of it to learn about. Every single vision board was entirely unique and interesting and had to have been an inordinate amount of work. Beyond these things there are even more that make Mrs. kohanim a great teacher like her passion and attitude toward learning. All these make for an excellent learning experience and an impactful class.

  21. Mrs. Kohanim was one of the most influential teachers that I had. She engages with the classroom in interesting ways that felt completely different compared to the other classes I have had. She makes the class exciting with the use of her vision boards: an entire white board drawn with images and pictures that all relate together about the current unit. Her class was very interesting, as we would explore the depths of morals and aspects of what it means to be human. She has the ability to make anyone an amazing writer, as she is able to connect with students on an individual basis and gives suggestions and feedback for improvement. Thanks to her teachings, I feel confident about my writing as well as my understand regarding deep philosophical ideas. Thanks to her class and her teachings, me and my other classmates are prepared to take on the rigorous paths of literature.

  22. The only negative thing I could say is that I wish Mrs. Kohanim had stayed at Northview High School. She was both of my children’s favorite teacher at Northview. Even this morning, my daughter is quoting life lessons learned during literature class. I think that is the sign of a great teacher.
